Interrupt Layout

We are very pleased to announce that R207 now supports interrupt layouts! An Interrupt Layout does exactly as the name implies and will 'interrupt' the usual schedule for a defined Share of Voice percentage. You can find out more about Interrupt Layouts here.

Adspace ready

With the addition of the Interrupt Layout functionality, this release can be used with Adspace, Xibo's advertising platform.

Fixes and Features:

• Feature: Interrupt Layout functionality has been added.
• Fix: Changes to how the currentLayoutId is handled.
• Fix: Proof of play stats stored locally are transfered incorrectly if the player is connected to a new CMS.
• Fix: Required files entry on the status page is incorrect if the player is not licensed.
• Fix: Inside download window status page entry fix.
• Fix: Caret and highlighted field selector can become misaligned with keyboard connected.
• Fix: Player options unavailable when network error is returned.
• Fix: Network error when conencting to another CMS with web content scheduled.
• Fix: Splash screen is not shown if default layout is invalid.

Welcome to the next edition in our quick win series! If you missed the last blog, we touched on the World Clock widget. In part 9 of the series, we look at capturing a video file thumbnail in Xibo v3.

Xibo v3 allows users to select a frame from a Video on upload to be used as a thumbnail.

Using the file uploader, use the scroll bar or press play and pause on your chosen frame...

...before clicking to upload.

The thumbnail will be shown in the Library and Regions for easier identification in the CMS!

In the last blog of our quick win series we looked at Video File Thumbnails. This edition takes a look at setting expiry dates to media files directly on upload to a Layout in Xibo v3.

New for v3, set Expiry Dates when uploading Media files directly to Layouts!

On adding a file based Widget, the uploader will open which now includes a checkbox to Set Expiry Dates...

...which when ticked allows you to set Start and End times...

...as well as additional options to Delete on Expiry and Delete from Library.

Use the Start Upload button to bulk upload all added files to have the same Expiry Dates set or upload individually using the upload button at the end of each row and amending the Start and End times prior to upload!

Control what Users can access and how they can interact with objects using a combination of Features and Sharing settings!

Features control areas of access for a User/User Group throughout the CMS...

...by enabling/disabling Features in each "Feature Set" within the separate tabs.

Share options are found on user objects such as Folders, Media, Layouts, Displays etc...

...where you can apply View, Edit and Delete options for Users/User Groups.

Last week we looked at Features and Sharing settings to control access and interaction for users. Part 12 of the quick wins series looks at creating new users to the CMS using an easy to use Onboarding Wizard.

New Users can be easily added to the CMS using an Onboarding Wizard available in v3! Select from one of the available pre-configured User Groups to suit the role of the User to add...

...provide the User Credentials to create a login for the User to access the CMS...

...assign a Folder to easily give access to the User objects needed right from the start!

On saving, the User will be created and will inherit the enabled Features of the User Group so that they can only access the relevant parts of the CMS in order to undertake their User role!

Please note: The onboarding wizard and pre-configured Groups are available for new v3 installations and for users who upgrade to v3 who have not previously utilised User Groups in earlier versions!

User Groups are an easy way to configure a set of Features and Share options which can then be applied to multiple Users.

The v3 CMS has pre-configured User Groups which have the required Features enabled to match the specified role....

...or create your own User Groups and use the Row Menu to set the Features to apply.

You can even opt to have your created User Groups available to select to make Onboarding new Users an even easier process!

v2 players will connect to a v3 CMS, but please be aware that new v3 features will not be supported.

1.8 players will also function but please be aware that v2/v3 features will not be supported.

We recommend using player software of the same version as your CMS.

On-premise licensing

If you use any of our commercial players (Android, webOS or Tizen) and have taken advantage of on-premise licensing, please update your on-premise licensing module at the same time as you upgrade your CMS.

The new module can be downloaded from My Products.

Automated credentials setup using a USB.

It is now possible to create a JSON file that will contain your CMS URL, Key and license pool email address. This method further simplifies setup, especially for USB installations. You can view the guide for this feature here.

Many actions throughout the CMS can be performed in bulk using the With Selected option at the bottom of Grids.

v3 has a variety of actions included which can be performed in bulk for a quicker and easier process!

Select multiple rows by clicking to highlight and then use the With Selected menu...

...and click on the action you wish to perform!

The previous blog in this series looked at the Additional Bulk Actions available in v3. This blog, the last in this series, looks at the ability to automatically submit many actions found throughout the CMS!

A variety of Forms, found throughout the CMS, can be set to be automatically submitted on a press of a button to save time on reqesting the same actions over and over!

Click on a selected action from the Row Menu...

...and use the Automatically Submit this form? check box to enable for the selected action.

The next time you click this particular action, the form wont open nor will you need to confirm by clicking Save, it will automatically submit!

Actions that have the auto submit capability will contain the check box on their form. Previous enabled selections can be reset in Preferences from the User Profile

DSDevices Hardware Dispatch Deadlines

Orders for DSDevices DSCS9 hardware dispatching from the UK must be paid for in full prior to 12:00 noon UK time (GMT) on Friday 24th December 2021 in order to dispatch in 2021.

Orders placed or funded after that time will not dispatch until 4th January 2022.

Orders for DSDevices DSCS9 hardware dispatching from the Netherlands will dispatch as normal over the holiday period, excluding weekends and Dutch public holidays (25th and 26th December 2021, and 1st January 2022).

17P/Holmes is a periodic comet with an orbital period of 6.88a (Julian years). Edwin Holmes (an amateur British astronomer) discovered the comet on November 6, 1892. It's last closest approach to the sun was in February 2021 and is on it's way back in January 2028.

3.1.0-alpha is a development preview only and should not be used in production. You can upgrade to this release from a 2.x series.

This release builds on the success of 3.0 with improvements in the following areas:

Simplification of the Layout Editor

We've listened to your feedback and reopened our Layout Editor project. We're determined to make it simple to use and yet as powerful as ever.
The first part of this work is to simplify the editing experience, with a streamlined editor:

We've also included integration from Pixabay to show images/videos when searching in the toolbar:

Pixabay can be enabled from the Administration section of the main CMS menu by clicking on Applications and scrolling down the page to the Connectors section.

Menu Boards

It has always been possible to create a menu board in Xibo by utilising DataSets and the DataSet widget. This release makes this even easier by adding a separate Menu Boards user interface to create and configure data to be associated with menu board items.

Create menu boards by defining categories and including images, descriptions of menu items:

Coming soon in the beta release is a Menu Board Widget which can be configured to display the data held in Menu Boards on Layouts.

Cycle playback

Have you ever wanted to only play 1 widget or maybe play a random widget from a Playlist each time a Layout is shown? This release introduces this feature on the Sub-Playlist Widget!
Each time the Layout is shown, only 1 item will be shown from any Sub-Playlist with cycle playback enabled.

We also took this functionality and added it to Campaigns!

Schedule a Campaign with cycle playback enabled and each time that Schedule Event appears only 1 Layout will be shown from the Campaign:

Xibo for Windows will be the first player to support this functionality in the upcoming v3 R302 release...
